MYTH: Increasing America’s use of Canadian crude oil will only slow down progress toward a greener energy economy.
FACT: We need all forms of energy. Even with increased development of renewable resources like wind and solar, the U.S. will continue to require oil imports to meet its energy needs, which are predicted to be 21 percent greater in 2035 than in 2009. Meanwhile, recent EIA projections suggest that even doubling the amount of renewable energy consumed in the U.S. would not be enough to match current oil consumption rates.
