MYTH: Oil sands crude will do little to nothing to enhance U.S. energy security because the output is already slated for export outside of North America.
FACT: Oil is sent where there is demand and according to EIA projections, the United States will continue to have a significant need for oil in the foreseeable future. While pipeline projects like the Keystone XL will help North American energy supplies reach a broader global market, the U.S. will still rely on friendly, reliable and affordable oil from Canada – our greatest energy partner. EIA projects that Canada will be our largest source of oil imports through year 2035.
